Project Overview

The Goldener Hirsch project stands as a remarkable construction endeavor that has become legendary among the ranks of Okland Construction. Only two individuals saw the project through from beginning to end: Okland’s exceptional Project Engineer and Intermark’s Owner, Matt Blaser. This challenging undertaking spanned two brutal winters, with steel erection commencing on January 14, 2018, amid record snowfall. In just two weeks, the site received 7 feet of snow, complicating the erection of complex structures, including double-mitered roof beams. The project featured a diverse array of components, such as structural steel, 25-ton pedestrian bridges, architectural skin elements, balcony rails, and grand lobby stairs. Intermark Steel demonstrated extraordinary commitment, sacrificing alongside Okland Construction to bring this project to life. At the time of completion, it was the most expensive real estate per square foot in Utah and showcased breathtaking architectural design. The new Goldener Hirsch buildings were seamlessly connected to the existing structure through a pedestrian bridge and post-tensioned patio. The bridge, fabricated as a complete unit, was erected over Thanksgiving weekend to prevent road closures in Deer Valley. A 25,000-pound plate girder supported the weight of the concrete patio while also serving as the railing on the patio’s opposite side. The bridge and girder were connected using a post-tension concrete slab to maximize overhead space for vehicle traffic. New railings were fabricated around the court to unify the new and existing buildings, tying them together with a cohesive architectural feature.
