Intermark Steel was grateful for the opportunity to work on the Neeleman Barn project, which beautifully combines the aesthetic of rough-sawn timbers with the strength of structural steel. This facility is designed to house over 100 Jersey cattle and serves as the centerpiece of the new Dairy Farm expansion.
The project began when Levi Wright, who specializes in constructing pole barns, realized he was in over his head with the engineering and construction of the new dairy barn. Recognizing the complexity of the project, he reached out to Matt Blaser for assistance.
Upon inspection, it became clear that there were significant issues with the foundation’s rebar cages. The concrete subcontractor had misinterpreted the specifications, leading to a risk of severe structural problems. With a keen eye for detail, Matt advised Levi to cancel the concrete pour, which prevented potential elevation issues and long-term structural failures.
To correct the situation, Intermark Steel facilitated the proper installation of rebar cages and engaged Steve Gingich to accurately shoot the elevations for the columns. This collaboration ensured the building was straight and properly aligned, safeguarding the integrity of the structure.
Though the project faced challenges, the team worked diligently to achieve a successful outcome. Unfortunately, despite producing a video documenting the project’s progress, the recognition was ultimately given to Levi Wright, leaving Intermark’s contributions underappreciated. Nonetheless, the Neeleman Barn stands as a testament to Intermark Steel’s commitment to quality and problem-solving in the face of adversity.
